Kaizer Chiefs held AS Simba to 0-0 draw in their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round first-leg at Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday afternoon.
With the game not on tv, Chiefs fans had to rely on updates from the club’s official accounts.
The hosts did have the ball in the back of the net at the midway period, but the celebrations were cut short as the assistant referee had flagged for an offside, with the sides heading into the break with score level at 0-0.
In the second half, Chiefs gathered themselves after the difficult opening and provided their first chance when Glodly Lilepo combined with Khanyisa Mayo to get their first shot on target.
The hosts pushed forward in search of a breakthrough, looking to tilt the contest in their favour. But Chiefs held their ground, finding space in attack and matching the intensity.
The tie remains evenly poised ahead of the second leg at Dobsonville Stadium, although Chiefs missed a chance to pick up an important away goal.
Meanwhile AmaZulu moved into the Betway Premiership’s top eight after they scored a late winner to claim the derby spoils with a 1-0 victory over Durban City at the at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, October 18.
Elsewhere Orbit College bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership when they secured a 2-1 victory over Richards Bay at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Friday night.
