New Zealand’s clash against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain at the R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo on Saturday.
The result meant that both teams shared the points, confirming South Africa’s qualification for the semi-finals.
South Africa have claimed four wins in a row, against New Zealand, India, Bangladesh and most recently Sri Lanka to rise to second on the standings.
Tazmin Brits hit a century against New Zealand, captain Laura Wolwaardt showed promising signs (70 off 111) against India in what is sure to have their upcoming opponents on high alert, while all-rounder Nadine de Klerk has proven the match-winner with superb efforts during recent run chases for the Proteas.
New Zealand still remain in fifth place on the World Cup table with four points from five matches while Pakistan, still searching for their first win, remain at the bottom.
