Durban City Football Club confirmed that the Club has mutually agreed to part ways with the Head Coach Sinethemba Badela, with immediate effect.
In a statement released by the club, Durban City explained that the decision followed a broader internal review rather than performances on the pitch.
“Durban City FC confirms that the Club has mutually agreed to part ways with Head Coach Sinethemba Badela, with immediate effect.
This decision is not a reflection of match results, nor does it detract from the professionalism, dedication, and commitment demonstrated by Coach Badela during his tenure. The Club acknowledges and sincerely appreciates his contribution, particularly his role in introducing a modern footballing philosophy and cultivating a strong, values-driven culture within the squad. His approach was aligned with the Club’s long-term vision and developmental objectives.”
Durban City added that interim coaching arrangements and the process of appointing a new head coach will be communicated in due course, as they look to steady the ship for the crucial run-in.
Badela coached the team for three weeks, meaning he was in charge of three games across all competitions.
He helped the side claim maximum points in a 1-0 victory over Polokwane City in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), but was unable to help them in the second game, which they lost 2-0 to former side Chippa United.
However, he avenged the loss last weekend in the Nedbank Cup, where Durban City eliminated the Chilli Boys in the Round of 32.
Badela have served as an assistant coach to one of South Africa’s best young and exhilarating coaches currently, Rulani Mokwena, at Wydad Athletic Club.
