SA Police Services (SAPS) have confirmed that local spaza shop owner Mazwi Mpumelelo Kubheka, who was allegedly kidnapped has been found.
Mazwi (27) was last seen on 2 April in Marimba Gardens, Vosloorus, East of Johannesburg.
His disappearance was linked to a dispute over his spaza shop.
Residents of Vosloorus along with political parties, protested on Friday, calling for his safe return.
Minister in the presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni told the residents that the case was being treated as a priority, signalling heightened attention.
“They are going to support the police in their investigation; we are going to embark on what we call an intelligence-led investigation,” she said.
SA Police Service (SAPS) national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed his return.
“Lieutenant General Mthombeni has just announced that Mazwi Khubeka, who was kidnapped after a spaza shop dispute, has been found and is at the Vosloorus police station.”
“He apparently presented himself at the police station this evening. Investigations are ongoing,” Mathe said.
Mthombeni said, they aren’t sure how he got there but he is currently at the Vosloorus Police Station, being questioned and then will be taken for a medical check-up.
