The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula unveiled the Gauteng and Eastern Cape Provincial Task Teams (PTT) respectively.
The newly appointed PTTs have been entrusted with the responsibility of driving the organisational mandate, strengthening structures and leading preparations towards the 2026 Local Government Elections.
Mbalula said the organisational changes were routine and in line with the ANC Constitution.
He said the party was operating normally across all provinces, including Gauteng and the Eastern Cape, despite internal organisational adjustments.
Mbalula said the NEC had approved the “regularisation of organisational business” in both provinces through the establishment of provincial task teams, after provincial executive committees’ terms expired without provincial conferences being held.
He announced Panyaza Lesufi as the Provincial Convenor of the newly reconstituted PTT. The task team members are constituted as follows:
1. Provincial Convenor: Panyaza Lesufi.
2. Deputy Provincial Convenor: Mandla Nkomfe.
3. Provincial Coordinator: Sochayile ‘Socks’ Khanyile.
4. Deputy Provincial Coordinator: Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.
5. Provincial Fundraiser: Tasneem Motara.
Oscar Mabuyane meanwhile will lead the ANC’s Eastern Cape provincial task team (PTT) as convener, while Helen Sauls-August will serve as coordinator.
Mbalula also rejected suggestions that the Eastern Cape ANC had been disbanded.
“The Eastern Cape is not disbanded, its term lapsed, so the ANC have approved that we constitute a provincial task team,” he said.

2. Deputy Provincial Convenor: Mlungisi Mvoko.
3. Provincial Coordinator: Helen Sauls-August.
4. Deputy Provincial Coordinator: Rulashe Nesi.
5. Provincial Fundraiser: Zolile Williams.
Mbalula said the changes would not affect governance in the provinces.
“The governance of these provinces is not affected by these organisational matters of the movement. The work of the state continues,” he said.
The additional members were drawn proportionately from across the regions with Mbalula stating that the task teams will function “in concert with ex officio leadership of the movement in the provinces in line with the constitution”.
