SUN CITY, North West – Tyran Snyders claimed a strong haul of 16 points to surge into the lead of the Blu Label Unlimited Challenge with 38 points going into Saturday’s final round at the Lost City Golf Course.
Snyders leads by five points over Jean-Paul Strydom, Lyle Rowe and Estiaan Conradie.
Snyders opened his round on Friday with a birdie, and added another seven birdies to wrestle the top spot from overnight leader Conradie.
“I’m really happy with how I played. I got off to a good start that definitely helped settle me. Everyone in the group was playing well, so I think we kind of just piggy-backed off each other. Overall I am happy with the day,” Snyders said.
Snyders, who finished tied sixth at the Fortress Invitational, is relishing a shot at a maiden victory on the Sunshine Tour following several top-10s this season.
“It’s a good place to be. It’s why we practice and why we play golf, because you want your name to be up there. The last couple of weeks I’ve seen my name on the leaderboard, so I am getting comfortable with that now. I’m just going to go out tomorrow, play the same and stick to the gameplan.”
After another sweltering day on the golf course, his first priority however was to cool down and reset before the final round.
“I ran out of a bit of energy on the last putt. I had to use all of it today. I’m going to find the nearest swimming pool, and the dam here on the 18th hole was very tempting. It was hot out there, so definitely getting to a swimming pool as soon as possible,” an exhausted Snyders said.
George Coetzee moved into fifth place on 28 points, while recent champion Austin Bautista is currently tied sixth on 27 points.
