ActionSA confirm talks with Baloyi amid “irreconcilable differences” with Mashaba.

ActionSA National Chairperson, Michael Beaumont, has confirmed all is not well between political high-flyer Bongani Baloyi and party president, Herman Mashaba.

“ActionSA can confirm that a meeting did take place with Baloyi on Tuesday 7 March which discussed a proposal of a change of role for Baloyi arising from irreconcilable differences on the running of the Gauteng provincial structures,” said Beaumont.

“Baloyi had asked for time prior to a meeting this coming week to consider the matter and we are disappointed that it has appeared in the media prior to this meeting.”

Baloyi who became South Africa’s youngest mayor for Midvaal in 2013 at age 26, resigned from the DA after 14 years in December.

He was being touted as ActionSA’s 2024 Gauteng premier candidate.

While running the Midvaal Municipality, Baloyi received seven consecutive clean audits. Under his leadership, the municipality went from being the 16th best-performing municipality in 2013 to the fifth best in the national rankings.

Baloyi managed to create what has been referred to as a service delivery and governance blueprint.

Midvaal Local Municipality is part of Sedibeng District Municipality and is surrounded by some of the worst-performing municipalities in the country, Emfuleni and Lesedi.
