Actress Asavela Mqokiyana was arrested for speeding at 198 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N2 in Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) and is set to appear in court.
Mqokiyana made her first appearance at Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on October 19. She is due to return on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.
The Department of Transport said she was driving a BMW X3 SUV and was clocked at 198 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.
Transport MEC Siboniso Duma said Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) will have no mercy this festive season, as demonstrated during transport month.
He said Mqokiyana’s arrest reminds all motorists that the #NenzaniLaEzweni Operation is still in full swing.
Duma said his team would execute more than 26 #NenzaniLaEzweni Multidisciplinary operations until October 28.
“We will have a further 15 operations focusing on drunk driving,” he warned.
Mqokiyana is the daughter of well-known soccer coach Manqoba Mnqqithi. She became famous for playing the character of Ntwenhle in Isibaya from 2018 to 2021, and also starred as Amogelang in the second season of Abomama.
After taking time away from the screen, Mqokiyana returned to television in 2025 when she joined SABC1’s long-running soapie Uzalo as Nurse Sizakele. Her return marked another chapter in a career that has seen her move between different characters and productions.
