The Afrika Mayibuye Movement will hold its first National Convention which will take place from 5–7 December 2025 at the University of Johannesburg in Soweto.
According to the party, the gathering marks a defining moment shaping the Movement’s ideological direction, organisational character, and generational mission. It is also a pivotal step in charting a new, people-centred future for South Africa.
The party will hold a press conference on Wednesday, 03 December 2025, to share the progress ahead of the National Convention.
The party has experienced a series of leadership resignations in quick succession.
When the party began in September 2025, it had two Deputy Presidents: Robert Nwedo and Dr Nolubabalo Mcinga. Nwedo’s resigned a month after Mcinga was fired.
Spokesperson for the party, Sydney Baloyi said that the party is currently focused on its first National Convention, taking place from 5 to 7 December, and the replacements have been made.
Baloyi said. While he described the departures as “regrettable,” he emphasised that the party respects their decisions.
He added that the movement will now proceed with members who remain “fully committed” to advancing the party’s goals, as the party works to stabilise itself ahead of its planned national gathering.
The party rolled out its reconfigured national leadership on 29 November 2025, following a two-day meeting of officials on 28 and 29 November. The party’s president Floyd Shivambu described it as a step to “separate the wheat from the chaff,” aiming to refocus on land restitution, total freedom, and social justice.
The changes see the complete removal of the two previous Deputy Presidents and two previous Deputy Secretaries General, who no longer hold any leadership roles. The new structure expands the leadership, introducing a third Deputy President.
The new leadership includes:
- President: Nyiko Floyd Shivambu
- 1st Deputy President: Thato wa Magogodi
- 2nd Deputy President: Nomsa Ka-Mashobane Sibisi
- 3rd Deputy President: Siphephile Cyprian Mahlaba
- Secretary General: Lazola Ndamase
- 1st Deputy Secretary General: Mzwandile Goge
- 2nd Deputy Secretary General: Nosipho Makamba
- National Chairperson: Mmabatho Mokause
- Deputy National Chairperson: Siphiwe Mkhatshwa
A fresh addition is the Mayibuye Workers Desk, set to champion rights in exploited sectors like EPWP workers, CWP workers, security guards, petrol attendants, retail workers, and farm workers.
Shivambu said the party would be a “family project” and would become “the most successful political organisation in South Africa. He signalled a renewed and more radical focus on its core objectives of land restitution and total emancipation.
