Athletics South Africa President Aleck Skhosana has outlined his manifesto for another term in office.
Athletics SA (ASA) will hold its overdue election on May 8.
The federation’s ballot is normally held every four years in the year of the Olympic Games‚ but was delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Skhosana and the bulk of his executive will be looking to win their third terms.
His manifesto map the way forward over his plans and achievements under his administration that has been under one and a half terms starting from 2014.
Broadcast Rights – ASA is at the stage of announcing a new broadcast deal after wrapping negotiations for an all-inclusive 3-5 year TV and Radio broadcasting contract that is now different from how it was structured in the past.
Competitions – ASA to seek alternatives to enable athletes to qualify, test and prepare themselves for international competitions. A number of options are going to be explored and others implemented.
Partnerships – ASA to endeavour to host the World Athletics series namely the bronze and silver labels competitions. Cape Town, Tshwane, Durban and Johannesburg are the target cities for that. Cities are already bidding for World Athletics events. World Athletics and Africa under the CAA (Confederation of African Athletics) have been knocking every day at ASA for these to happen.
Sponsorship and Marketing -Through a professional Marketing agent/s, ASA will design a strategy to market and develop ASA as a positive sought-after brand that will also have a positive impact on Member Provinces.
Development – Appointment of National Development Manager to work with Provinces and Schools in rolling out programmes of Coaching, Technical Education and Administration that will sustain and continue to make South Africa a powerhouse in the world of athletics.
Meanwhile Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) president James Moloi has finally accepted the nomination to run for the highest position in SA athletics.
Moloi will challenge ASA boss Aleck Skhosana at the eagerly awaited elections in Kempton Park on Saturday.
Skhosana is hoping to extend his reign in the ASA office to 10 years if he wins another four-year term. However, Moloi is the favourite with seven endorsements and five other provinces backing his presidential campaign.
