The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed that the much anticipated KwaZulu-Natal elective conference has been delayed by a week.
The conference was scheduled for July 15 to 17 and the new date for the conference would be July 22.
This was confirmed by the party’s provincial spokesperson, Nhlakanipho Ntombela, who said the branches had not yet met the required 70% threshold, which in terms of the party’s constitution must be met in order for the conference to proceed.
Furthermore, the PEC decided to set the cut-off date of BGMs to convene to the 10th of July 2022.
“Adherence to these dates will ensure that all ANC internal processes, including disputes and verifications are done … timeously,” said Ntombela.
You have appeals which must be attended to and resolved. If those branches must reconvene they must be given an opportunity. About 100-150 or so branches are outstanding”.
Ntombela said the ANC has a responsibility to ensure that its conference is held within the ambit of its constitution and all its prescripts.”
Equally, it is mandatory for the party to advance democracy and provide a conducive platform for its members to engage each other,” he said.
He added they have confidence that all branches which have not convened will be able to meet the new deadline.
