African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa says the party wants to take back control of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
Ramaphosa encouraged residents of the Wells Estate where he is campaigning in Gqeberha to go out in numbers to vote as ANC wants to win the NMB Metro.
Addressing residents of Wells Estate in the town during the second leg of his ANC’s election campaign, Ramaphosa said premier Oscar Mabuyane would soon put plans in place to ensure the improvement of the delivery basic services to the area which has a high rate of youth unemployment.
He says they lost the Nelson Mandela Metro in the last local government elections with a small margin.
Ramaphosa further mentioned that the ANC wants to return good governance into the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro,saying there are potholes,some areas are dirty and others have no electricity and people are required to pay connection fees.
Meanwhile Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema on Sunday took the party’s election campaigning to Thabazimbi,Limpopo,where he said the party wants to “have a meeting with the whites”.
Malema said while South Africa is meant to belong to all who live in it, most South Africans “have nothing to show that the land belongs” to them.
He called on supporters to “do the right thing” on 1 November, in order for the EFF to gain control over municipalities in Thabazimbi.
He said once that happens, the party wants to teach while landowners “how to live with people”.
Malema said when the EFF gains control of Thabazimbi, the party will “have a meeting” with while landowners in the region.
Elsewhere the Democratic Alliance announced plans to ramp up its campaign for the local government elections which are scheduled to take place on the first of next month.
Some of the Western Cape DA leadership accompanied party leader John Steenhuisen for the announcement of the plans at the Cape Town Civic Centre.
The DA says it’s intensifying its election campaign to reach South Africans in every ward across the country.
The party has also conceded that there is room for improvement when it comes to the delivery of basic services in the municipalites they govern.
