The Cape Town Magistrate’s Court has postponed the inquest into the death of Anele Tembe to September 7, 2026, after the presiding officer became unavailable due to medical reasons.
The inquest is expected to re-examine the circumstances surrounding Tembe’s death and assess whether someone can be held legally accountable.
Tembe, 22, fell from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town on April 11 2021.
She was engaged to rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, who was with her at the hotel on the day of her death.
Tembe’s family threatened to initiate legal action against the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) over its June 2022 decision not to prosecute on the matter.
NPA Western Cape spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed the postponement.
“The court heard on [Monday] morning that it had to be postponed as the presiding officer in the matter had to attend to a medical emergency,” Ntabazalila said.
The matter was set to run for three days in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court and will now be heard on September 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16.
Six witnesses have been subpoenaed to testify about the circumstances surrounding Tembe’s death.
The musician was shot and killed alongside his friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, outside the now-defunct Wish restaurant on Florida Road in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
SA Police Services (SAPS) later arrested seven suspects in connection with the murders.
The trial is set to be heard in the KZN High Court in Durban from 5 October to 8 November 2026, with the pre-trial proceedings set to resume on 13 August 2026.
