Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is ready to enter a new chapter in his life as a shareholder and the face of a new betting company, Topbet SA.
At the beginning of the 2023/24 season, Khune was handed a one-year extension by Chiefs.
He went on to capitalise on Brandon Petersen’s inconsistencies to take the number-one spot at the club before a disciplinary breach saw him get suspended.
Upon the expiry of his one-year contract, the club refused to extend his deal.
A couple of weeks ago, Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung stated the club was ready to give Khune another off-the-pitch role.
Seemingly, the former South Africa international did not agree to that and wanted to do something else.
The 37-year-old is now a shareholder at TopBet and has since explained how he was hurt by the Soweto Giants and about his new venture.
“I must emphasise that I’m not a brand ambassador for Topbet, but I’m the owner,” Khune told the media.
“We need to start teaching footballers and all other businessmen and women out there that there are bigger opportunities out there,” Khune stated. “When you meet the right people, you sit down and have a talk around the boardroom table, and you realise there are bigger opportunities to get involved in.”
In a statement, Top Bet expressed how proud they are to have partnered with a South African football Icon like Khune, adding that Khune will be at the forefront of every initiative.

Khune is currently a free agent after parting ways with Chiefs at the beginning of the season.
