Barcelona boss Xavi has revealed that he will walk out on the club at the end of the season in the aftermath of Saturday’s chaotic defeat to Villarreal.
Spanish giants lost 5-3 at home to Villarreal, in which they surrendered a 3-2 lead.
The 44-year-old stated that the situation at Barcelona ‘needs to change’.
Xavi said: ‘I want to announce that on June 30 I will no longer continue as the coach at Barça. I think the situation needs to change course, and as a culer, I cannot allow the current situation.’
“I spoke with the board and the club today. I will leave on the 30th of June”.
Barcelona have lacked consistency this season and are currently in third place in La Liga, with the defeat to Villarreal leaving them ten points adrift of leaders Real Madrid.
