The Springbok Sevens team bounced back from their disappointing loss to Ireland in the Toulouse Sevens by swamping Spain in the second half to win 27-7.
A brace of tries by Zane Davids in the first half, as well as late tries by Ronald Brown and debutant Bradley Blood ensured the victory, but for a large part it was less than impressive from the standards the Blitzboks set for themselves.
They started off exceptionally well, with Davids powering his way over in the corner, but then allowed Spain to come back with Enrique Bolinches scoring to put the Spanish team ahead by a conversion.
Davids’s second – on the other side of the field, gave the Blitzboks the halftime lead and they never looked back from there.
Siviwe Soyizwapi scored in the opening minutes of the second half, but Ronald Brown settled the game by running around the defence with no space to score his try. Blood finished matters off with a great celebration for his debut try.
The Blitzboks will now face Samoa in a massive game on on Saturday at 12.22pm that will help decide whether they go through to the Cup competition,
Samoa beat Ireland and Spain and are in pole position to qualify and with Ireland, who shocked the Blitzboks 21-12 earlier, likely to beat Spain as well, the Blitzboks have no option but to beat Samoa if they want to qualify.
