The Springbok Sevens side will have an ideal opportunity to bury another demon as they face Great Britain in the quarterfinals of the Cape Town Sevens on Saturday night.
The Blitzboks dispatched France 26-7 in fine fashion to finish their pool unbeaten, and will now face the British side in the quarterfinals as they look to end their Cape Town hoodoo this weekend.
Great Britain beat the Blitzboks both in Hong Kong and Dubai as the South African side put in some poor performances in both games.
While they recovered and went unbeaten for the rest of the Dubai tournament, the loss to the British side still rankles this Springbok Sevens side.
A brace by Shilton van Wyk – both from kick and chases – as well as tries from Muller du Plessis and Dalvon Blood was enough to send the crowd into a frenzy as the Blitzboks marched on in good form.
Earlier they had beaten Fiji, who also qualified for the playoffs and Canada in their other pool games.
World Champions Australia failed to qualify for the quarterfinals after losing out to Great Britain in a tough pool fight that saw USA top the pool.
New Zealand will face Uruguay in the first quarterfinal, while Samoa face Argentina in the other quarterfinal.
