For two nights on 29 and 30 May, SunBet Arena turned into a time machine. Boyz II Men performed to sold out crowds in Pretoria, delivering a show built on nostalgia, timeless vocals and a catalogue of songs that have soundtracked generations.
For many fans, the group’s music was the backdrop to school dances, first loves, weddings, family gatherings and countless late-night singalongs. Judging by the reaction inside the arena, those memories remain as powerful as ever.
The photos from both concerts tell the story:
Thousands of fans were on their feet as the legendary R&B group worked through a set packed with hits including End of the Road, I’ll Make Love to You, On Bended Knee and Water Runs Dry. The trio also mixed in memorable covers of Prince’s Purple Rain and Lenny Kravitz’s American Woman.
Throughout the show, Nathan Morris, Wanyá Morris and Shawn Stockman repeatedly reminded the audience that the evening was about celebrating music and living in the moment. They thanked God for their talents and the opportunity to continue performing around the world more than three decades after their breakthrough.
Originally formed in Philadelphia in 1985, Boyz II Men became one of the most successful vocal groups in music history, selling more than 60 million records worldwide and dominating the charts throughout the 1990s. Their blend of flawless harmonies, emotional ballads and genuine stage presence helped define an era of R&B.
What stood out most over the two nights was how little the quality has faded. The vocals remain exceptional, the chemistry remains intact and the songs still resonate with audiences of all ages.
Quality and class endure. Boyz II Men arrived in Pretoria carrying the weight of enormous expectations and left having delivered exactly what fans hoped for. The sold out crowds got their memories, their nostalgia and, most importantly, a reminder of why these songs have stood the test of time.
