Mpumalanga police have announced that one suspect has been arrested in the murder case of slain daughter of former Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) secretary general Godrich Gardee.
The suspect was arrested this morning and more arrests are expected as the investigation is still ongoing.
This was revealed by the provincial commissioner Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela during a media briefing, just after 11pm at the house of the slain Hillary Gardee.
When asked, why they only came to brief the family so late, She said they had to make sure that they have right suspect but she is not at liberty to divulge more information, as these will jeopardise the investigation.
Manamela has indicated that the suspect is between the age of 30-40 and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
The family spokesperson Sinawo Tambo said as a family they appreciate all the hard work done by the police and they should be commended for achieving their 72 hour activation plan.
Gardee was reported missing on 29 April after she was last seen at Spar at the Plaza Shopping Centre in Mbombela with her three-year-old daughter. The girl was later found abandoned in Kamagugu where they both lived.
Police found Hillary’s body in a timber plantation near Sabie on Tuesday. At the time, Mpumalanga police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli said police found her with a wound to the head, bruises to her body, and that there were blood stains at the scene.
Tambo said Gardee was shot execution-style, and there was a R1 300 cardless transaction she sent to herself during the time she was missing.
He said they were still going to get Section 205 to do further investigation on cellphones and other banking creditors.
Gardee will be laid to rest in KwaMagugu, in Mpumalanga on Saturday.
