Returning after a two-year hiatus, DStv continued its ongoing partnership with the Delicious International Food & Music Festival as the headline sponsor of the event that took place from 24 to 25 September at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

The weather was in a stellar mood as thousands of patrons strolled down Mr.D’s Delicious Mile, snacking on a variety of food from local vendors.

The main stage was transformed into a time capsule that took the audience back into history. Clan praises reverberated and filled the space as festival goers were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition second to none.

DStv’s surprise Shaka Ilembe act was well timed to commemorate Shaka Day. The audience was swept back to the 1700’s, into the Zulu King’s world.

The live performance featured a star-studded line up including MzuluPhaqa, Mduduzi Mabaso, Mnqobi Yazo, Sadaam, Mbuzeni, and Sjava – who served as the music director for the real-life advert.

His impassioned contribution to the on-stage teaser cannot not be overlooked. One concert goer commented “The stage is Sjava, Sjava is the stage.”

Through song and dance, the performance further highlighted the importance of owning our African stories and using arts and culture to document the contribution of history in our lifetime. The showcase and its integration into the festival highlights how storytelling remains the crux of the brand’s agenda and its vision to make its viewers ‘feel every moment.’

Shaka Ilembe is a historical saga premiering on DStv’s Mzansi Magic in 2023. The series captures the authenticity and deepens the understanding of Shaka’s famed reign. It uncovers layers of rich Zulu heritage while striking an intriguing balance between originality and high production value.

An electrifying performance by ‘The African Giant’ Burna Boy closed out Saturday’s entertainment.

The ‘Last Last’ hitmaker was the headlining act at the 2022 DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival.

An unofficial estimated 100,000 people attended the festival on Saturday – many eager to see Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu.

The rapper took to Twitter to share a picture of the sea of people during his show.

Burna Boy sang several songs including his hit song with AKA, ‘All Eyes On Me’.

His performance was the highlight of the festival, which suffered several hiccups this past weekend.

VIPs complained that they had to wait hours for everything.

“The name of the game is queueing. To pee, to eat, to park, to drink, to enter. You will spend at least 3 hours queueing,” one Twitter user wrote.

Organisers blamed fake ticket holders for some of the delays. One Twitter user bragged about managing to get in for free.

Despite the drama, many agreed that Burna Boy saved the day with his amazing performance.
