The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) and SuperSport announced broadcast agreement for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The announcement was made at the SuperSport headquarters in Johannesburg.
The event was attended by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, CANAL+ Africa Chairman, Calvo Mawela, CANAL+ Africa CEO David Mignot and Rendani Ramovha.
Mignot, said: “Our newly formed merger with MultiChoice Group has already unlocked opportunities and benefits for our customers. The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 is a great demonstration of this ambition—bringing together our expertise to offer unprecedented coverage and bring fans closer to the game.”
Morocco were awarded the hosting rights on September 27 2023. They last hosted the tournament in 1988.
The 2025 edition was originally planned to take place during the summer in order to avoid club impact, but the expansion and re-scheduling of the Club World Cup meant it was pushed back.
It will now take place between Sunday December 21 2025 and Sunday January 18 2026, marking the first time the tournament has taken place over the Christmas and New Year period.
Meanwhile St Eloi Lupopo CEO Jean-Luc Kapend strongly defended the club against all allegations, asserting that Orlando Pirates were misled and maintaining his side is “clean.”
“Orlando Pirates took a wrong information, [Ramos] Kashala was registered on 29 September, that was one day before the window closed,” said Kapend.
Pirates allege that player Henoc Molia was registered outside the transfer window period while Ramos Khashala Wanet allegedly holds two passports.
While CAF handles that matter, Lupopo will be hoping that this is the end of their off-field problems as they have maintained that they are innocent in their case against Pirates.
