Cape Town City have sold Nigerian attacking midfielder Abdul Ajagun to Al Hilal of Sudan, the side that will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions league this season.
The player’s arrival has been confirmed by the Sudanese side after he spent a year in Cape Town having joined City in January 2021.
Part of that time was spent on the sidelines through injury, but he scored six goals in 14 appearances and was a handy performer for the team.
He is one of a number of departures at the club, who have already sold winger Surprise Ralani to Mamelodi Sundowns and defender Abbubaker Mobara to AmaZulu. Shane Roberts and Douglas Mapfumo have gone out on loan.
City have not confirmed any new arrivals but have been linked with former Ajax Cape Town playmaker Mogamat May.
Meanwhile Stellenbosch FC have added a second South American attacking player to the squad after announcing the signing of Venezuelan forward Juan Carlos Ortíz on Friday.
Ortiz joins Argentine Junior Mendieta at the club as coach Steve Barker looks to add some additional attacking flair to a team that has pace and youthful energy, but not always the desired quality in the box.
The 28-year-old netted an impressive 16 goals in 32 games for former club Monagas in the Venezuelan top-flight in the 2021 season, which proved a breakthrough year for him as he won a move to the DStv Premiership.
Stellies have also brought in defensive midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa from Black Leopards. The 27-year-old played 25 top-flight games for Lidoda Duvha last season, and continued to be an important player after their relegation.
He has also previously played for Royal Eagles (now Royal AM).
Elsewhere Chippa United have completed the signing of midfielder Siphelele Luthuli and Zimbabwe international defender Ronald Pfumbidzai, who were both most recently with fellow DStv Premiership side Royal AM.
The pair will add experience to the squad for rookie coach Kurt Lentjies as the side look to move up the table in the second half of the season.
Both players were part of the sale of Bloemfontein Celtic to Royal AM, but have been used sparingly this season.
Luthuli made a single substitute appearance against Stellenbosch FC in November, while Pfumbidzai has not featured at all. In fact, his last game was in March 2021 before injury struck.
“The players have been selected for their quality and consistency in all aspects of the game,”Chippa said in a statement. “Their capabilities and potential with their erstwhile teams, including the now-defunct Bloemfontein Celtic, are a key factor and we trust that they will thrive in the Chippa United FC environment.”
Chippa hinted there could be more arrivals too before the transfer window closes on Monday.
“Further announcements concerning the current transfer season will follow in due course,” the statement said.
