The case against four suspects accused of a mass shooting in Soshanguve, Jukulyn – a township in the north of Pretoria has been postponed to 30 January for formal bail application.
Tshepo Mosemeni, Sipho Kgomo, and George Nyathi appeared before Soshanguve Magistrate Court this morning, including Sizwe Msibi, whose case was struck off the roll on Tuesday.
On New Year’s day four people were shot dead in Soshanguve,Jukulyn that’s notorious for being gangster-ridden.
Previously, Nyathi did not appear as he was hospitalised for injuries believed to have been sustained from his arrest.
To kickstart the proceedings, a medical certificate was presented to the magistrate to prove his hospitalization.
Representing all four suspects, lawyer Steve Magoro argued that Nyathi’s injuries, which include two black eyes, deep cuts near the left eye and on the forehead with stitches.
Magoro also told the court he intends to challenge how Msibi was rearrested.
He further stated that he’d not seen the J50 form used to secure Msibi’s appearance before the court on Friday.
Magistrate Swart, however, dismissed all these including the argument of documents that detail the grounds of arrest not being presented to him, citing that these are public documents that he could access anytime as a lawyer.
Eventually after deliberations, the matter was postponed to 30 January for further investigations.
All four remain in custody at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Tshwane.
At the same time, in a statement, the Hawks confirmed that a fifth suspect was also due to appear before the Pretoria North Magistrate Court on Friday on a charge of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. A sixth person, a woman, was released after she could not be linked to the crime.
