The murder case against Eldorado Park cop Sergeant, Mandla Goodman Buthelezi, has been postponed.
Buthelezi is accused of killing his 22-year-old girlfriend, Crime Prevention Warden Keppler Chesnay Patricia, on 26 December 2024.
Many people, including government officials and members of the community, attended the court proceedings, with most wearing pink T-shirts in remembrance of the victim.
The Protea Magistrates Court postponed the case to Wednesday, 26 February to allow for further investigations.
Buthelezi is alleged to have used his service pistol to fatally shoot his girlfriend through a window at her neighbor’s home during a domestic dispute.
The 42-year-old Buthelezi allegedly killed Keppler in the early hours of Thursday, 26 December, at her friend’s home in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg.
The officer, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, fired several shots through the window after a fight, hitting Keppler, who later died.
It’s alleged that the officer would repeatedly drive a police van in the early hours to the house where Chesnay had taken refuge, demanding she wake up whenever she was off duty.
Keppler Chesnay Patricia was laid to rest on Saturday, 4 January.
