Central Gauteng Athletics joined hands with the Zithulele Sinqe Foundation to host the 2nd leg of the Zet Sinqe Series Run on Saturday, 21 August 2021 at Germiston Lake. This leg of the series comes after hosting a very successful 1st leg at Westonaria Sports Complex on the 26 June 2021.
The objective behind the Zet Sinqe Series is to continue the passion for development of the late Zithulele Sinqe, who was a dedicated development coach with IAAF Level 2 Coaching qualification. Part of the Zet Sinqe Series is to use the series to unearth athletics talent and assist in creating educational and training opportunities for talent athletes.
The day commenced with the 5km race, which saw Neo Hlalukane of UJ Athletics club took command of the race from the start to claim victory in the time of 15:41. Hlalukane’s training coach, Thulani Sibeko indicated that he was delighted with Hlalukane’s performance though they have to improve the time at the last series which will be held on the 16 October 2021 at FNB Stadium.
The long awaited event of the day has to be the 1.6km Mile events which caters for U13, U15, U17 and U19 age categories.
Tyran Brooks of Boxer Athletics Club showcased a good run out in the U13 boys’ category to finish first in 05:26, he wiped off 25 seconds set by Siyanda Dladla in first series run. In the girls’ event U13, Karabo Makgatha of Murray and Roberts athletics club delivered a great performance to cross line in 05:56.
CGA General Manager, Mandla Radebe said during the event interview that CGA is pleased with the results and the turnout on the mile event which is keeping with the late Zithulele Sinqe vision of grooming talented youngsters. “We are working very closely with athletics schools to ensure that these youngsters finds a suitable facilities to cultivate their talent.” said Radebe.
Some of the exceptional performances on the day were U17 boys’ category, which saw Johannes Morepe maintain his successive victory in 04:29. A grade 10 learner from Vorentoe academy team said he really enjoyed the race though he couldn’t manage to better his previous time but he is delighted to grab a gold medal.
Zethulele Sinqe Foundation co- founder and daughter of the late Zithulele Sinqe, Zintle Mokoka highlighted that she draws inspiration from his father vision as she used to travel with him to train young athletes in various parts of the country. She further said that her ultimate vision of the Zet Sinqe Series is to see it grow to become a national event.
