Finishing second in Group B behind South Africa, they have played just one completed game due to rain disruptions, securing a crucial win over England. Josh Inglis’s unbeaten 120 in that match highlighted their batting depth, but the team’s lack of match time remains a concern. After their final group match in Lahore was washed out, they traveled 2,000 kilometers to Dubai, ensuring they were prepared for this clash. However, the shift from Lahore’s humid conditions to Dubai’s dry pitches will test their adaptability.
Led by Rohit Sharma, India have been the team to beat, winning all three of their group-stage matches convincingly. Their latest victory over New Zealand, powered by a sensational five-wicket haul from Varun Chakravarthy, showcased the strength of their spin attack. With players like Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya contributing vital runs, India’s batting remains formidable.
Unlike Australia, India have played all their matches in Dubai, giving them a significant advantage in understanding the pitch conditions.
Their spin quartet—Chakravarthy, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar—has thrived, taking nine of New Zealand’s ten wickets in their last match. This familiarity with the conditions has drawn criticism from some quarters but undoubtedly gives India an edge.
Historically, Australia hold an 84-57 advantage over India in ODIs, including a 9-5 edge in World Cup encounters. Their most recent clash—the 2023 ODI World Cup final—saw Australia triumph on Indian soil, a defeat that still stings for Rohit Sharma’s men.
In the Champions Trophy, however, India lead 2-1, adding intrigue to this matchup. With key Australian pacers like Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood absent, and India missing Jasprit Bumrah, both teams will rely heavily on their bench strength.
