Kaizer Chiefs secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Golden Arrows during their uninspiring Betway Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Chiefs had a promising start to the match, creating most of the scoring chances; however, they couldn’t hit the net.
Amakhosi broke the deadlock in the 40th minute after a free-kick from Pule Mmodi found Glody Lilepo but Thakasani Mbanjwa pushed the ball into Aden McCarthy’s path who made no mistake to make it 1-0.
The hosts went into half-time leading 1-0, leaving Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi a lot do in the dressing room.
Chiefs created a half chance in the 59th minute, when Mduduzi Shabalala found Flavio Silva in the box but he shot was blocked by Oumar Comara, while Arrows went out on a counter attack, and a cross from Philani Khumalo found Siyanda Mthanti his shot went over the crossbar.
Arrows came close to getting an equaliser in the 70th minute when Siyanda Ndlovu beat three Chiefs players but was denied by the post, with Brandon Petersen well beaten.
Chiefs held on to their slender lead to defeat Arrows 1-0 and move to the third position on the log with 27 points from 14 matches.
Meanwhile Stellenbosch FC kickstarted their 2025/26 campaign with a gritty 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.
