Kaizer Chiefs secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium to clinch a third place in the Betway Premiership and qualifying for the CAF Confederations Cup.
With the game looking like it was headed for a frustrating draw, Chiefs regained the momentum in the dying minutes of the match.
In the 85th minute, Glody Lilepo made a late run on the right wing and squared the ball in the box and Tashreeq Morris, who had come on moments ago, reacted quicky to poke it home for 1-0.
In the 89th minute, Mfundo Vilakazi showed class on the left wing, beating his marker brilliantly before squaring to Lilepo. The Congolese was, however, fouled from behind and the referee pointed to the spot.
Vilakazi stepped up and scored but the referee ordered a retake and even on the second time, he still scored to secure the win.
Meanwhile Limpopo clubs Black Leopards and Baroka FC have been relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League.
With one match remaining in the season, Baroka are set to finish bottom of the table, while Black Leopards will finish second from bottom.
Both clubs have previously competed in the top-flight. Baroka, under the leadership of Khurishi Mphahlele, also won the 2018 Telkom Knockout and remain the only professional football club in South Africa to own their own stadium.
Leopards, owned by David Thidiela, were initially relegated to the amateur ranks in 2023 but later purchased the status of All Stars to retain their position in professional football.
Meanwhile, Midlands Wanderers FC and Lerumo Lions FC, both in their debut season in the second tier, have retained their status. The two sides occupy ninth and 13th positions respectively.
