Kaizer Chiefs Football Club have completed the signing of highly rated winger Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC on a long-term deal.
The deal ends a week of negotiations between the two clubs, with Chiefs succeeding in their pursuit of the South African youth international after Stellies had initially been reluctant to part with one of their brightest prospects.
As part of the agreement, defender Given Msimango and forward Ashley du Preez have moved to Stellies on permanent deals.
In a brief statement, the club said, “We warmly welcome Langelihle to the Gold & Black family and look forward to a positive and successful career with Amakhosi.”
With talks of Glody Lilepo on his way out, Phili emerged as an ideal attacking option for the Soweto giants.
Stellies also confirmed the move, saying “We can confirm that Langelihle Phili has completed a permanent transfer to Kaizer Chiefs. We thank him for his outstanding contribution over the past two seasons and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
Durban-born Phili joined Stellenbosch FC in 2024 and recorded 11 goals and 2 assists in 72 appearances for the Club, reaching back-to-back MTN8 finals and competing in consecutive CAF Confederation Cup campaigns.
During his time in Stellenbosch, the winger was part of the South Africa squad that won the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, and also represented his country at the subsequent FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
His international form extended to the domestic game, where his impressive performances last season earned him an unprecedented four awards at the annual Stellenbosch FC awards ceremony.
The 21-year-old was named as SFC Players’ Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season and Golden Boot winner, and also earned the Rama Fans’ Player of the Season accolade.
