Kaizer Chiefs have announced that defender Edmilson Dove has suffered an injury and is expected to leave the pre-season camp in Turkiye.
Chiefs are currently in Turkey preparing for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season under the mentorship of the new coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Dove joins Tebogo Potsane, Dillan Solomons, and midfielders, George Matlou and Mduduzi Mdantsane did not travel with the squad.
“Kaizer Chiefs’ defender Edmilson Dove has joined the Club’s injury list after he suffered an injury during Friday’s session at the club’s pre-season training camp in Türkiye,” the club stated.
“The Mozambican international has been examined by the medical team in camp. He will leave Türkiye and head back to South Africa for a full assessment and medical attention.”
In an interview with the club’s media team, Dove revealed the team’s gruelling schedule, which included three sessions in a single day – a morning run up a mountain, followed by gym and field sessions in the afternoon.
Dove acknowledged the challenge of adapting to a different philosophy and approach. “We have a new technical team, so we are trying to get the philosophy of what he wants,” he said.
“Every coach is different. Different approaches to what they want. It’s up to us as players to assimilate everything they give us and try to make it work on the field.”
The 29-year-old expressed optimism about the team’s progress. “We’re hoping that everyone, as a collective, can get all the things needed for us to be ready at the beginning of the season.”
Meanwhile Fullview understands that Chiefs preparing a move for ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star Bongani Zungu, who is currently in Turkiye.
The 31-year-old is currently on the market after parting ways with Sundowns at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Zungu posted a video of himself at the airport arriving in Istanbul. He captioned the video ‘Instabul’ showing his location and that has heightened expectations of him moving to Chiefs.
