Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that outgoing coach Nasreddine Nabi did not travel with the team to Angola for the CAF Confederation Cup clash.
Fullview reported Nabi will on Thursday be finalising a deal to terminate his contract with the club, which still has a year to run.
Nabi’s possible exit came a day after Chiefs were humbled 3-1 by Sekhukhune United to suffer their maiden league defeat of the season at FNB Stadium.
On Friday, Chiefs announced via a statement that the coach does not form part of the team, who are currently in Angola for their CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Kabuscorp SCP, as they try and resolve matters with the coach.
“Kaizer Chiefs confirms that Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team as discussions between the Club and the Coach remain ongoing. The matter is internal in nature and is being addressed through the appropriate processes.
“The Club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period.
“As this is an internal matter, no further details will be shared at this stage.
“We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our supporters and the broader football community. Any updates will be communicated through official Club channels when appropriate,” the statement read.
The 60-year-old joined Chiefs at the beginning of last season, and his arrival was expected to usher in a new era at Naturena.
Prior to his arrival, the club had failed to finish in the top half. The season started well for the Tunisian, but the club’s struggles continued and they subsequently finished outside of the top half for a second season running.
Under Nabi, the club did win the Nedbank Cup, ending a 10-year trophy drought when they defeated Orlando Pirates in Durban.
