Kaizer Chiefs have been fined R150,000 by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) DC for fans misconduct in their 4-0 Carling Knockout Cup defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB stadium on November 2.

“Chiefs have been fined R200 000 half of which is suspended for 12 months, on the condition that they are not found guilty of the same offence,” said PSL Prosecutor Zola Majavu.

“Three weeks ago Chiefs appeared on the same charges, and were fined R100 000, of which R50 000 was suspended. Now that they have reoffended, under the operation of law the R50 000 is no longer suspended. So Chiefs will pay a total of R150 000, plus the costs of the sitting, which will be administratively computed by the league and added on to the R150 000.”

The DC (Disciplinary Committee) also observed that fining clubs week in, week out is not in and of itself and answer to deal with the growing acts of hooliganism, which have an adverse effect on the league, stakeholders and sponsors,” added Majavu.

Chiefs’ fans also threw missiles at the end of the Betway Premiership meeting with Sundowns on September 28 at FNB Stadium.

Meanwhile Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung says the new PSL should start discussions around the succession plan that would see young people taking over the leadership of the League.

Motaung (80) was speaking during the PSL quadrennial general meeting in Sandton this week where he was once again elected to the League’s new executive committee.

“We’ve come a very long way in this league. We maneuvered and worked together as a team. Even when Irvin Khoza was not the chairman of Pirates at the time, he was with us whenever we were fighting with SANFA (the South African National Football Association), who wanted to run both amateur and professional football, ‘said Motaung.

Our journey with the chairman has been exciting and very eye-opening. We went through quite a lot. It takes time for us to put something together, but we can write our history ourselves and not wait for somebody to come write it for us. We need to write our history in terms of where we come from and this has been our lives through and through, “concluded the Chiefs boss.
