TS Galaxy striker Augustine Kwem says they must take confidence from their 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup in February as they head to the same FNB Stadium for a vital DStv Premiership clash at both ends of the table.
Chiefs still have eyes on a title race against Mamelodi Sundowns, despite trailing the leaders by 13 points, while second-bottom Galaxy are desperate for points in their bid for survival.
That is perhaps more especially so after a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Royal AM on Saturday.
“The game against Chiefs is key because we are coming from a devastating loss and it helps us to get back on track in the race for survival. The key is not to lose, “Kwem, who scored in that Nedbank Cup game, says.
“It [the cup win] gives us confidence heading into the game. But also, complacency should not creep in because we actually did beat them at the FNB Stadium. We are playing them at the same venue and must come out to better our performance from that day.”
Galaxy are winless in their last five league games (D2 L3), but can get a huge boost in confidence if they can bag all three points.
“It is a time to switch on. After the [cup] game against Chiefs, we had a good run, we won the next match [1-0 against Swallows FC] and drew against AmaZulu [0-0] before we played Sundowns [a 3-0 loss].”
Meanwhile Chiefs bounced back to winning ways in style as they thrashed Chippa United 3-1 away with Khama Billiat producing a Man of the Match performance on Saturday night.
Despite the victory, the Soweto giants remained third on the league standings, but they are two points behind second-placed Royal AM and 13 points behind the leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs also have two games as they look to mount a serious challenge for this season’s DStv Premiership title and a victory over Galaxy will elevate them into second place.
