Kaizer Chiefs secured a comfortable 4-0 first-leg victory over Simba SC in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.
Chiefs welcomed back Samir Nurkovic and Dumisani Zuma in attack alongside Lebogang Manyama while Eric Mathoho and Reeve Frosler returned to the defence.
Defender Erick Mathoho scored the opening goal for Amakhosi in the sixth minute and Gavin Hunt’s men doubled their lead thanks to a 34th-minute goal by Samir Nurkovic.
Amakhosi took a 2-0 lead into the half-time break, but quickly added a third when Nurkovic scored his second of the match in the 57th-minute.
Leonardo Castro then made it 4-0 in the 63rd minute in what turned out to be the final score on what was without question one of the greatest night’s in Kaizer Chiefs’ 50-year history.
Chiefs comfortably ran down the closing stages of the match to pick up a comfortable first-leg victory.
Meanwhile Mouloudia Club d’Alger (MC Alger) scored a late equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw against Wydad Casablanca at Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers on Friday evening.
The result keeps the Algerians in with a chance ahead of the 2020-21 Caf Champions League quarterfinal second-leg in Morocco next weekend.
Wydad dominated proceedings and hit the woodwork twice in the first-half before finally finding the opener in the 65th minute of the match.
The visitors were awarded a penalty after Mohamed Ounajem was brought down inside the area. Yahya Jabrane stepped up to the spot to give the two-time champions a deserved lead and valuable away goal, but they were made to rue not taking any of the chances they created before the break.
Miloud Rebiai headed home to level matters in the 83rd minute of the match to give the Green and Red a fighting chance in Morocco.
The return fixture is set to take place at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on the 22nd of May.
The aggregate winner will face either Kaizer Chiefs or Simba SC in the semifinals.
