Kaizer Chiefs have announced they will honour club legend Itumeleng Khune for his 25 years of service ahead of their final home game of the 2023/24 season.
Khune will be honoured at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 18 May 2024, during the Chiefs’ final home game of the 2023/24 PSL season against Polokwane City.
He has been with Chiefs since 1999 as a development player before being promoted to the first team five years later.
“With the club intent on thanking our fanbase for their loyal support by finishing the season on a positive note, Kaizer Chiefs fans have another good reason to flock to FNB Stadium this Saturday, 18 May, with legendary goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, set to be honoured ahead of the team’s final home match of the campaign,” said Chiefs in a statement.
“The fixture against Polokwane City promises to be an emotional and celebratory one as the club, teammates and supporters say thank you to one of the most decorated players in Chiefs’ history.
“Khune, a stalwart of South African football, has been a pillar of strength for Kaizer Chiefs for over two decades.”
It has been a rollercoaster season for Khune who has faced mixed fortunes.
Saturday’s programme by Chiefs could invite speculation that it could be a farewell gig for the veteran goalkeeper on their home turf.
Khune has made 346 appearances for Chiefs, and lifted three league titles, two Nedbank Cup, three MTN8 trophies and four Telkom Knockouts at Naturena.
