Manchester City have beaten Borussia Dortmund 4-1 at home to strengthen their position in the league phase of the Champions League.
City are unbeaten in their opening four matches and a third win moved them up to fourth in the table, with the top eight sides qualifying automatically for the last 16.
Phil Foden broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish before Erling Haaland struck against his former club. Foden scored a delightful second goal after the break to give City a three-goal cushion, but Pep Guardiola’s side then lived dangerously.
Dortmund’s second-half pressure finally paid off when Waldemar Anton pulled one back and City must have had some deja-vu from their late capitulation against Feyenoord last season as they let their German visitors get too close to their goal for comfort.
The Bundesliga side could not build on the momentum, though, and Rayan Cherki made sure City grabbed a third win out of four European games with a sumptuous strike in added time.

Guardiola described Foden as being back to his best and ready to inspire City’s push for silverware.
“Phil is back,” Guardiola said. “How many times have we seen Phil score these type of goals? We miss this a lot last season but this season I think he is going to help us a lot.
“When Phil is happy with love and joy, you don’t have to say much. He’s a special player but we need his goals and hopefully today was the first step to do it.”
