The multi-party coalition in the City of Tshwane is considering the motion of no confidence against newly-elected Speaker, Mncedi Ndzwanana.
A special council meeting will be held on Monday, to consider the motion of no confidence against Ndzwanana.
The multi-party coalition demanded the meeting after what they described, as unlawful actions of the speaker of council in adjourning a meeting on Wednesday.
They are accusing Ndzwanana of protecting his coalition partners in the ANC and EFF.
Ndzwanana meanwhile has since called for the city to return to normality. This after the council again failed this week to elect a Mayor.
Last week, the council also failed to elect a replacement for Murunwa Makwerela, who resigned after it was found he submitted a fake rehabilitation certificate amid an insolvency saga which made him ineligible to serve as a councillor.
“It is my fervent wish to see the Executive Mayor elected to enable the city to return to normality and for Council meetings to conclude the business of the day uninterrupted,” said Ndzwanana.
“There are many important and urgent outstanding reports that require Council approval, and it is my wish to see those reports approved to ensure that service delivery is not adversely affected,” he adds.
He notes that he received a letter from the attorneys “of some of the political parties represented in Council” that he has responded to.
This possibly follows contention in Cope this week where warring factions in the party put forward different names for who should represent them in Council.
However, the provincial MEC for Cooperative Governance has also written to Ndzwanana on why the city has still not elected a mayor – amid calls from some political role-players to have Tshwane placed under administration.
