Two people have been killed after a light aircraft crashed in Nasrec, South of Johannesburg on Sunday morning, according to Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC).
According to the ARCC Chief, Gregory Critchley, two people onboard died in the accident.
A previous report by Emer-G-Med paramedics indicated that three people were killed.
“The initial reports received from the ground teams were three. It appears a miscommunication between services on scene,” Emer-G-Med paramedics spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.
“Emer-G-Med paramedics together with multiple emergency service agencies were in attendance of a light aircraft crash […] Sadly two people have lost their lives”.
Van Reenen said he was not in a position to comment on the details relating to the crash as it will be included in the report.
He added that the plane crashed near the Nasrec mine dump.
South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) said the aircraft “departed from Grand Central Airport in Gauteng on a training flight with the intention to land back at the same airport”.
SACAA’s Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID) is investigating the matter. A preliminary report will be issued within 30 days.
