Premier Soccer League prosecutor Nande Becker has provided an update regarding the disciplinary case involving Cape Town City midfielder Mpho Makola.
The matter was heard on Thursday, 11 November and will resume on 23 November 2021.
Makola faces a six-month ban after he was seen on TV shoving a match official during Cape Town City defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final.
It appears that the PSL prosecutor used Article 57.2.1.2 of the National Soccer League (NSL) Handbook‚ which carries “at least six (6) months for assaulting a Match Official”.
According to Becker, player argues that he was acting under self-defence.
In a game that they fought from a goal down to force the shoot-out – where they eventually lost by a margin of 3-2 – Nathan Idumba was red-carded after receiving two yellow cards.
Should Makola be punished, it will be the second time he is found guilty of physical confrontation after he was suspended for manhandling Abongile Tom after a Telkom Knockout clash against Kaizer Chiefs in 2019.
Both Makola and City manager Andreas Christodula were virtually present in yesterday’s hearing.
