Disbarred advocate Malesela Teffo is expected to appear in court this morning after he was arrested on Tuesday on charges of fraud, assault, malicious damage to property and trespassing.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the arrest but says he will only be named after his appearance.
No further information about the case and the reason for the charges was provided.
The 53-year-old Teffo became a household name while representing four of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
He later pulled a dramatic withdrawal from the case, citing harassment and threats.
In September last year, Teffo was struck off the roll of advocates by the High Court in Pretoria due to unethical and dishonest practices.
The Legal Practice Council (LPC) approached the court to have him suspended or removed after receiving 22 complaints about his conduct.
The LPC wanted Teffo to be slapped with direct imprisonment for contempt of court.
The court found that Teffo is not a fit and proper person and for him to continue practicing law would involve danger to the public.
Teffo had irked the LPC after appearing in the Senzo Meyiwa trial, attempting to make submissions as an “advocate”, despite being disbarred, before he was kicked out of court.
