Former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday over her “connection” to the July unrest.
MK Party (MKP) spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela confirmed to News24 that Zuma-Sambudla’s attorney was served with the charges last week.
On Tuesday, on X, the MKP announced that Zuma-Sambudla would be appearing in court and asked party members to come out to support her.
The country was brought to a standstill in July 2021 following former president Zuma’s arrest. Zuma-Sambudla was vocal on X during the unrest, often posting pictures of the destruction and carnage with the caption: “KZN, we see you.”
During testimony at the SA Human Rights Commission’s investigation into the unrest, Jean le Roux of the Digital Forensic Research Lab said Zuma’s daughter had engaged in the most celebratory posts during the July unrest.
However, in 2022, Zuma-Sambudla was not among the 20 July unrest instigators the Hawks arrested while the head of Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Lesetja Senona, said Zuma-Sambudla was being investigated.
At the time, Senona was guarded about the status of the investigation, only saying that once the Hawks were done with their investigation, they would present their case to the National Prosecuting Authority.
