The newly promoted Durban City has confirmed the appointment of Gavin Hunt as their new coach ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign.
Hunt, who has managed more than 1 000 matches in the country’s elite league, fills the post that was vacant after Simo Dladla left City.
The previous record for the most number of games as a coach was 816 and held by Gordon Igesund.
Club Chairman Farook Kadodia shared his enthusiasm: “We’re excited to welcome Gavin to Durban City. His achievements speak volumes, and we’re confident he’s the ideal person to guide us into this promising new chapter.
“His professionalism, deep football insight, and winning mindset are just what we need as we aim to compete at the highest level.”
Hunt arrives with an illustrious résumé built over more than 20 years in South African football, boasting multiple league titles and a collection of domestic trophies.
He has won four championships in his time at SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits and also trophies at Moroka Swallows. He also coached Black Leopards, Chippa United, Hellenic and Kaizer Chiefs.
