Two more sluice gates have been closed at the Vaal dam to reduce outflows as water inflows into the dam decrease.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) said on Monday that six sluice gates now remained open.
By Monday morning, the Vaal dam water levels had decreased from 104.51% to 103.42% with an inflow of 571.7 m³/s and an outflow of 1 269 m³/s.
At Bloemhof dam, where the water levels increased from 99.44% to 102.27% owing to the inflows from upstream, the outflows are being maintained at 1 400 m³/s.
Farmers and residents with pumps, movable equipment, or infrastructure situated close to the water’s edge are advised to move their assets, livestock and valuable property to higher ground.
The department remains on high alert and will continue to conduct real-time monitoring of inflows at both Vaal and Bloemhof Dams. Further updates will be issued as conditions change.
