Hooker or loosehead prop Jan-Hendrik Wessels has been ruled out of the Springboks’ Rugby Championship match against the Wallabies at Ellis Park on Saturday.
Wessels suffered a niggle at training on Wednesday and has been ruled out of the match because he has not responded well to treatment.
He is replaced on the bench with Boan Venter, who made his Test debut against Georgia in Nelspruit last month.
Venter joins Bongi Mbonambi, Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Franco Mostert and Kwagga Smith as the forward replacements for the eagerly anticipated showdown at Emirates Airline Park.
The rest of the bench comprise of Cobus Reinach, Canan Moodie and Damian Willemse, who will offer backline cover.
The loosehead prop started his professional career at the Cheetahs in 2017 before making the move to Edinburgh four years later.
