Cape Town City have confirmed the appointment of former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Muhsin Ertugral as the club’s new head coach.

Ertugral replaces Eric Tinkler who was sacked by the Mother City-based outfit this week following a series of poor results.

Tinkler, who spent three seasons in charge, delivered second, fourth, and fifth-place finishes, cementing City as a competitive force in the league.

However, a worrying streak of five league defeats proved costly, prompting the club to seek fresh leadership in Ertugral.

Ertugral, known for his extensive knowledge of South African football and his knack for turning struggling teams around, now faces the task of reviving City’s faltering campaign.

“Muhsin brings a wealth of local and international experience to our project,” the club said in a statement.

Having most recently served as a technical advisor to the Turkish national team, the 65-year-old returns to the PSL with a resume that includes stints at Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, and more.

Interestingly, the first assignment for Ertugral as an interim coach will be on Sunday against former team Chiefs at the DHL Cape Town Stadium.
