State owned power utility Eskom has announced that Stage 3 load-shedding will persist until 05:00 on Thursday (18 January 2024).
Eskom says the implementation of stage 3 is due to the sustained generation performance and the recovery of emergency reserves.
“Eskom Power Station General Managers and their teams are working diligently to ensure that the 2 721MW of generating capacity is returned to service by Wednesday,” said the utility’s spokesperson Daphne Mokoena.
“Planned outages which are implemented to improve the reliability of the generation fleet are currently at 8 843MW whilst unplanned outages are at 13 981MW of generating capacity.
The power utility said it would continue to monitor the power system closely and communicate any significant changes if they occur.
“The slight improvement in generation capacity as well as the recovery of emergency reserves for the week ahead has enabled Eskom not to implement Stage 4 load-shedding from 16:00 today as previously communicated,” Mokoena added.
