Former Eskom chief operating officer Jan Oberholzer is parting ways with the embattled power utility by “mutual agreement.”
The group announced on Monday (17 July) that the former COO will leave the group on 31 July.
Last month, Eskom confirmed that it had signed a two-year contract with Oberholzer to oversee key projects at coal-fired power station Kusile and nuclear power plant Koeberg.
Oberholzer officially retired in April this year, with the board saying it planned to scrap the position of COO upon his departure.
In a statement on Monday, the utility said the departure is of mutual agreement.
His last day with Eskom will be 31 July.
“Eskom expresses gratitude to Jan Oberholzer for his dedicated service, expertise and valuable contributions during his tenure. We wish him well in his future endeavours,” Eskom said.
His departure follows that of Andre de Ruyter, who left as CEO earlier this year.
Eskom is still looking for a new CEO to succeed De Ruyter.
De Ruyter officially resigned as the Eskom CEO on 14 December 2022.
Before his resignation, there were repeated calls for Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to fire De Ruyter.
The Eskom CEO came under increased pressure to reduce the exacerbated load shedding.
