A fire broke out at the Accident and Emergency Unit of Tembisa Hospital in the East of Johannesburg, earlier this evening.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says emergency teams are attending to the fire and he will provide a full update later.

Meanwhile Gauteng Health confirmed patients had to be evacuated from the accident and emergency unit.
“All patients who were in the Accident and Emergency Unit have been safely evacuated to a secure area within the hospital,” confirmed Motalatale Modiba, head of communication for the Gauteng Department of Health.
Emergency teams remain on site and are monitoring the area to ensure the safety of staff, patients, and infrastructure.
The department said that contingency plans will be put in place to ensure emergency services continued to be available to the community.
The cause behind the fire is unknown and will be investigated, said the department.
