The Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party have appointed Nyiko Floyd Shivambu as the Secretary General of the party with immediate effect.
Shivambu takes over the reins from Dr Sifiso Maseko, who resigned from the position earlier this week.
Maseko returned to his job in the Gauteng Department of Health – which he had been suspended from in 2022 pending a corruption investigation.
In a statement, “MK Party announced that its leader Jacob Zuma appointed Shivambu to the position effective immediately.
“He will assume all the functions and tasks of the secretary-general as prescribed by the Constitution of the MK Party.
Shivambu served as MK Party’s National Organiser after resigning from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) as the deputy president.
“The President and National Officials will in line with the Constitution of the organisation announce the necessary changes about the vacant role of the National Organiser.
“The President expresses full confidence in Secretary General Nyiko Floyd Shivambu and the entire leadership of uMkhonto weSizwe Party,” the statement read.
Shivambu read the political tea leaves and defected to the MK Party, causing the biggest rupture in the EFF since its launch 11 years ago.
