Four people were killed in single-car crash on the M1 South near Empire Road in Parktown, Johannesburg.
The driver lost control while travelling along M1 South just before Empire Road in Parktown – the car rolled over onto a roof of a nearby car dealership, killing four people who were trapped inside the vehicle.
Fullview understands that the deceased were all from Limpopo and three of them were studying in Johannesburg.
Gauteng emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says “four occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and were confirmed dead on the scene by Gauteng EMS paramedics.
“The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service and the Johannesburg metro police for further investigations, said Mulaudzi.
Meanwhile Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga has expressed concern at the high level of vehicle crashes and fatalities that have occurred in the country recently.
“Each year, the lives of South Africans are cut short because of road traffic crashes. Moreover, thousands of people suffer non-fatal injuries, with many becoming disabled as a result of injuries suffered during road crash incidents.
“While we have intensified efforts to communicate road safety messages through different mediums, it is unfortunate that road users’ attitude and behaviour towards obeying the rules of the road remain main factors significantly contributing to fatalities on the road, and as such this calls for more education targeted at behavioural change,” the Minister said.
